Kevin Wilson (00:02.242)
Welcome back to the thinking out loud podcast. My name is Kevin Wilson and I am excited to be here with you again for this week of the show. And, wow, we are in a crazy season. This is election season and this is going to be a quite a unique show. and one of the reasons why it's going to be unique is because
other than the commentary that I give in the beginning of the show, once we get into the meat of what we're going to talk about today, there will be no commentary whatsoever. I know you're like, Kevin, I can't imagine you not giving your thoughts or giving commentary, but I feel really, really led to do the show this way.
Never done this before, but I feel like this is the way I'm supposed to do this. and this is, trust me, it is going against all the things, that I, that I probably would do on my own. But you know, at the end of the day, this show exists to help you navigate culture from a biblical perspective. It is not about my opinions and I've tried.
every since we started this show in 2020. My goal was to make sure that every episode is chock full of scripture, chock full of the word of God, because at the end of the day, that's what matters. What I say doesn't matter what I think, what my opinion is, what my preferences are, all of those things. None of those things.
matter. What matters is the unadulterated, the inerrant word of God. And so that's what we're going to do today. And we're going to talk about some pretty hot button issues, but all through scripture. Okay. Now, before we get to that, I do want to say, if you are a new listener here, I just want to say welcome to you. We love new listeners.
Kevin Wilson (02:28.492)
Those of you who have been faithfully listening, I just want to say, appreciate you. I love you. I thank you. Those of you that pray for me, thank you. I need it. Those of you who share the episodes, thank you so much for that. Those of you who give, and I don't know, a lot of you probably don't realize that this show is a hundred percent listener supported.
This is why you don't hear ads. If it wasn't, you would hear ads. And so some of your favorite podcasts, you may hear ads, but listen, you don't have to hear them because there are people who are supporting this show. And I want to say to my donors, to those that donate to this show every single month, thank you so much. Those of you who give one time gifts.
And sometimes just randomly you will send a gift. Thank you so much And if you want to jump on that train and you want to be a part of this I would be thrilled if you would just go down in the show notes there You'll see some links there where you can give very securely you can give a one-time gift or you can give a Monthly gift and so no matter what
We will we will speak truth, right? And the truth is all contained in the Word of God I will also say this that this Show will be very shareable. Okay, there's sometimes there shows that you're like, you know This this show is very shareable. So share it with your friends share it with your family Share it with people who you feel like needs to hear it and our goal here
is to again help you navigate culture from a biblical perspective. And so I just wanted to get some of those things out of the way. And like I say, so in the beginning of this, I'm going to have some short commentary just about what we're going to get into and just about how I feel like we need to look at things. After that, when we get into the hot button issues that we're going to talk about today, there will be
Kevin Wilson (04:52.122)
zero commentary from me and 100 % scripture. Because at the end of the day, that's all that matters. man. So what a unique show today. I will say that the mostly this show is going to be for believers. All right. But it's also a show.
for non-believers. So if you're listening to me and you're not a believer, you're not a Christian, you're not, you know, you're not really into the whole God thing and all of that, right? This is still good for you. And one of the reasons why this is good is because you are going to be shown without commentary, right? Cause commentary sometimes can sidetrack you. can, it can cause you to turn it off because you're like, I don't want to hear what this guy thinks. Right.
And I get that because all we get is what people think. And a lot of times we're not getting the actual truth. We're just getting somebody's commentary. We're just getting what somebody's, you know, biases. I'm not interested in that today. I am not going to tell you, and we're going to talk a lot about what's coming up in this election and all of these types of things. But as an unbeliever listening to me today,
I want you to understand that you are not going to get my commentary. What you are going to get is 100 % scripture of what the Bible has to say about some of the hottest topics. Okay. And one of the things that I think this helps with is it helps with you understanding where Christians get this from.
So you don't think that we just made up some stuff or we're just trying to run people or tell people what to do or, you know, try to tell you what you should do with your body and all of these kinds of that. Nope, that that's and I understand that that's how you may feel at times. So because so that you don't continue to believe some of you that Christians just came up with this stuff.
Kevin Wilson (07:16.706)
just because they want to get their guy or gal in the, the presidential, the oval office. Right. want you to understand why we say what we say. Why do we believe what we believe? Why do we believe it so strongly? Why do we vote the way we do? Right. All of those things you're going to understand by the end of.
this episode. Okay. And I understand that some of you are going to want me to rail on the left. Some of you are going to want me to rail on the right. I'm not going to do either. I am not going to endorse a candidate. I want you to hear what scripture says about the most. Important things that are on the ballot. Right. And as a.
Bible believing Christian, you so now I'm going to strictly talk to you Christians now, okay as a Bible believing Christian you have the Responsibility to vote You do you you have the responsibility to go to the polls and to cast your ballot For the candidate that most fits the biblical
Truths That's what you're supposed to do now You can say well Kevin. I don't really I don't like either one all of that, right? I and I get that I get that but that doesn't mean you stay home people literally died So that you Could vote We have a responsibility to vote. All right, so
I know this is a crazy election. This is probably the craziest and the most contentious election I have ever seen in my lifetime. The stakes I don't think have ever been higher. Right? What we're facing and the alternatives and the things that could happen based on how this election goes is monumental.
Kevin Wilson (09:43.882)
It is bigger than anything that I have ever seen because there's so many layers and there's so many things that could affect so many other things. And so, yeah, this is not the one to sit to sit out. You should sit out any of them, but certainly not this one. So I encourage you and I implore you to go vote.
whoever it is that you're going to vote for. But as a Christian, I believe that we need to vote based on the truths of the word of God.
You might like the candidate, right? Sometimes we like the candidates. OK, we're like, yeah, you know what? You might not like the candidates. OK, you may not like their personality.
Right? you, you, there's, there's, there's, you may like their personality, whatever the case may be, there are people that, know, usually there's only two people at the end, right? Who we get to vote for. You might not like either of them. You might not like their personality. You might not like their hair. You might not like their clothes, whatever the case may be, but these are the two people that we have that will be effect.
policy for the next four years. Here's what you have to understand is with candidates they come and go. Sometimes they're there four years, sometimes they're there eight years.
Kevin Wilson (11:29.944)
But policies affect us now and in the future. So your guy or your gal that gets in, you say, but I don't want, I'm just going to hold my nose and I don't really want to vote. don't, you know, you say all those things and that's fine. But here's what you have to understand, not voting.
will still cause an effect, right? Like not voting still affects the elections. So, so if, if, we're going to do something and we're going to take our responsibilities as Christians, then we need to get out and do what we know we should do. Right. You may not like the candidate.
Again, candidates come and candidates go policies though. Not only affect us now, but they affect us in the future. So long after the person that you're like, well, I really want to vote for that person. Like I really liked their policies, but I don't really like how they are and how they act and how they talk and how they, whatever, whichever, whichever one it is. Right. Understand that that person will be gone in four years.
or gone in eight years. Okay. So if that person is gone.
Who cares what kind of personality they had? And I'm not saying that that's not important. What I'm saying is compared to the policies and the things that they enact while they're in office, those policies could be there for years to come. Those policies could affect your children and your children's children long after that person has exited the White House. So we should not vote based on personality.
Kevin Wilson (13:33.622)
based on hair, based on clothes, based on emotion. We need to vote based on the principles in the word of God.
Kevin Wilson (13:48.684)
Another thing that I want us to understand is we've got to get out of emotional voting. We've got to get out of that. Right? Understand your emotions. They come and they go. We cannot live life based on solely on emotion. Well, that person just doesn't make me feel right.
They're just, they could be mean sometimes or all that per- I don't like how that person's voice sounds. They sound nasally and they- I mean, you hear all kinds of things, right?
We have to be intellectually honest. We have to look at what the Bible says and then look at the policies of the person and say, okay, based on what the Bible says, I will now go and cast my ballot for the person that most aligns with scripture.
And I'm going to read scripture today. That's going to be very, very plain. It's not up for interpretation. You're not going to have to pull out the Greek and the Hebrew and the, look at the historical context to figure out what God is saying about these two issues that we're going to talk about today.
You don't have to do that. It is very plain.
Kevin Wilson (15:24.204)
We need to vote on policy and we need to pray for the person.
What's happening in our country is we're voting for a person instead of the policy. If we like the person, we vote for them no matter what the policies are. And I submit to you that that is irresponsible voting. And that is in some cases, sinful voting. And the reason why I say sinful voting is because when you vote for a person,
and disregard what their policies are, you sometimes will end up voting for things that are completely against God. And that is not what we should be doing as Christians. This is not about a person. This is about policy and the things that are going to be in enacted.
when the person gets in office.
Kevin Wilson (16:33.164)
We can't always change the person, but we can change and affect policy. And so this is pretty much where my commentary is going to end. Beyond this point and beyond what I'm going to say here in just a second, there will be zero commentary. I want you to listen.
As the Bible begins to tell us what God thinks about two of the biggest issues on the ballot. One is abortion. That's a hot button issue. Right. And, and, and, and the second one is what the Bible says about the LGBTQ plus. What should we be doing about that?
What does the Bible say about that? Right? Because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what you think. It doesn't matter what I think. I think, and to kick this off, we're going to talk about, and I'm going to read some scripture to you about the validity of scripture. What does scripture say? Right? What does
What does God say? Let's talk about the validity of scripture because if you're listening to this and you call yourself a Christian a christ follower someone who wants to be like christ in the bible Is your road map to life and it gives you the answers to life?
If that's because if you're a Christian, the Bible is your roadmap. There is no other roadmap. There is no book. There is no pastor. There is no politician. There's there's no one.
Kevin Wilson (18:32.952)
who should be the ultimate guide to your life other than the word of God. So if, and this is where I'm establishing this now, if you call yourself a Christian, and if the Bible is the infallible, inherent word of God,
You and I have a responsibility to not only believe the word of God, but also to act on into and to obey the word of God. James said, we should not be hearers only, but we need to be doers of the word.
And even when we don't like it, even when it goes against our quote, our emotion, right? Even though when we were like, Ooh, I don't really like that.
We're still supposed to obey the word of God. So the name of this podcast is what would Jesus do? WWJD, right? What, you know, and I know it seems crazy because you go, well, but Kev, that's pretty, you know, that's pretty outstanding for you to think, you know, what Jesus would do in 2024, who he would vote for in 2024.
But I submit to you that the Bible is very clear.
Kevin Wilson (20:12.994)
very clear. doesn't matter the person. Again, forget the person. It doesn't matter the person. The Bible is clear on some of the policies that are being promoted by these parties. The Bible is very clear and you're going to see that. But let's look at the validity of scripture. So what does the Bible say and what does God say about the validity of scripture? Because if this is going to be our
Roadmap and this is gonna be our guide. We need to know that it's true We need to know it's reliable and we need to know that it's sure we can't Stand on a false floor. We have to be able to stand on something their only way that you can make real decisions is you have to be able to stand on some point of truth
And as Christians, we say that the Bible is our guide. And unfortunately, there are so many pastors. I watch them. I listen to them. I talk to them. I see what's happening. And it blows my mind. I was watching something today and a pastor was very large church. I named the church, you would know.
very, very large, very well known. And the pastor was walking out with his wife and he does this thing that he always does. And, and, but anyway, he was saying right before he was walking out in the camera, just, you know, they walk with them as they're walking out. And there's a thing that he always has them say, and anyways, the congregation say, and he said, he goes, I want all of us to pray.
And I think they're doing a special day or something like that, that they're going to just be praying the whole day for the election.
Kevin Wilson (22:11.694)
There's nothing wrong with that. The only problem is what he's praying for is against based on the things that he said and what he stands for. It's against everything that the Bible stands for.
How does that happen? The only way that happens is if we don't use the Bible as our standard.
Kevin Wilson (22:39.982)
So let's look at let's look at the validity of scripture. Second Timothy three verse 16. Second Timothy three verse 16. Right. So and again. Well, Kevin, how well how do you know? How do you know what God would say? OK. Well, let's look at what scripture says. Second Timothy three 16. All scripture is God breathed. And it's useful for teaching.
rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. So basically what the scripture is saying all scripture, every bit of scripture, even the hard to read passages, even the passages that that after you read them, you have to change your vote.
Kevin Wilson (23:37.878)
It's all God breathe. is inspired by God and is useful for teaching. We do this on this show for rebuking. We do that on this show correcting. We do that on this show and training. We also do that on this show in righteousness. John 1 1 in the beginning was the word.
And the word was with God and the word was God. That's key. Because it basically, John 1.1 tells us that the word has always existed. What God wants, what his precepts are, what his principles are, what his laws are, all of those things have always existed.
Kevin Wilson (24:37.74)
And the word was with God. And here's the key, one of the biggest keys. And the word was God. God is his word. He is the word. So you say, but, but Kevin, that's just the Bible. I don't, I don't necessarily want to believe that, but I believe God and I don't think God would do. No, no, no, no. You can't separate the word from God. Like you can't separate the Bible, Jesus from his word. You just can't.
Like, that just doesn't work. But a lot of times people like to do that. They say, I love God. But you know that one scripture, it talks about this, that, I think somebody, some scribes or something mixed that up. No, no, no, no, no. It doesn't work that way. God is his word. So if you go against his word, you are going against God. That's just, I don't know what else to say. Psalms 119, 89.
Your word, Lord, is eternal. It stands firm in the heavens. The same word that would have been in
AD and BC is still the same word in 2024. It doesn't change. It doesn't get, it's not progressive, right? Right? In the sense that it changes. It's applicable.
to every season, every century, every decade, every millennium. It is...
Kevin Wilson (26:30.221)
forever.
Kevin Wilson (26:33.998)
Matthew 24, 35, heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Isaiah 55 and 11, literally one of my all time favorite scriptures in the world. So is my word that goes out of my mouth. It will not return to me empty, but it will.
Accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it
Once God speaks a word, it will come to pass. Do not be deceived. God will not be mocked.
Isaiah 40 and 8, the grass withers and the flowers fall.
But the word of our God endures forever.
Kevin Wilson (27:46.614)
And one of the reasons why it is so important that we vote and live our lives based solely on the word of God and not by what Bishop so-and-so says and pastor so-and-so and apostle so-and-so and the Pope and
your friend, your mom, your grandma. Well, my family's always voted Republican or my family's always voted Democrat or my family's always been independent. My family's like, none of that stuff matters. None of it.
Kevin Wilson (28:32.844)
The reason, one of the main reasons why is because we have to give an account to God for everything we do in our bodies.
Do you realize you're going to have to give an account to God for how you vote? so you didn't think that that was going to be a thing. God doesn't really, I mean, that's not, mean, why would God care about that? That's my, that's my, you know, it's my vote. It's my, it's, you know, my decision.
Kevin Wilson (29:06.708)
it might be your decision. But you're going to be judged based on the decisions that you've made. Make no mistake about it. Second Corinthians five and ten says, for we must all.
all appear before the judgment seat of Christ so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body.
According to what he has done, whether good or bad. So that each one of us, we're going to pay for the deeds done in our bodies. This is why you can't take this election and your voting and who you vote for. For granted. You can't just think you're going and filling in some circles and going home.
You are making a critical decision, critical decision that God actually cares about and that you will give an account for.
Kevin Wilson (30:32.458)
Now that we've established that now that we've established what the that the word of god one is the ultimate authority That it is infallible It is inerrant and it's not going away scripture after scripture that I just read Confirms that Let's examine This is where commentary is over We're going to examine now
what the Bible has to say about two of the election's most hot button issues.
Kevin Wilson (31:14.072)
You're going to hear it straight from God. How? What would Jesus do? How will we know what Jesus would do? Well, he left us a book that told us everything about these two hot button issues. No dictionary needed. No lexicon, no, no Greek, Hebrew. Nope. You don't need any of that. It is very plain. And there is no way that you can interpret these scriptures.
any other way.
Kevin Wilson (31:51.704)
First, we're going to talk about through scripture what the Bible says about abortion. And then we'll talk about what the scripture says about the LGBTQ and how we should look at these things. Okay. Are these things right? Are they wrong? Is it a sin? Is it not? Should we support a candidate that promotes these things or should we go with the candidate?
that agrees more with the word of God. OK. All right. Commentary over. Abortion Psalms 139, verse 13 through 16. Now, some of these are going to talk specifically about the sanctity of life and all of that, the preciousness of life and all the things. Right. And I'm just going to again, from this point, no commentary, just reading scripture.
Psalms 139, 13-16, for you created my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. I know that full well. Verse 15.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Kevin Wilson (33:47.456)
Exodus 21 verse 22 through 23 If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely But there is no serious injury the offender must be fined whatever the husband the husband demands and the court allows But if there is
serious injury, you are to take life for life.
Kevin Wilson (34:27.118)
Galatians 1 and 15. But when God, who set me apart from my mother's womb,
and called me by his grace was pleased. Psalm 106 37 through 38. They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons and shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan.
and the land was polluted with their blood. Proverbs 6 verse 16 through 17. There are six things which the Lord hates. Yes, even seven which are an abomination to him. Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.
Kevin Wilson (35:42.518)
Now I'm reading scripture that has to do with homosexuality in the LGBTQ plus community. Leviticus chapter 18 verse 22, do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman. That is detestable.
Leviticus 20 verse 13 if a man has sexual relations with the man as one does with a woman Both of them have done. What is detestable? They are to be put to death Their blood will be on their own heads Jude chapter 1 verse 7 in a similar way
Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.
Romans chapter 1 verses 26 through 28 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural and in the same way also the men Abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire
towards one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
Kevin Wilson (37:43.894)
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind to do those things which are not proper. Genesis 2 24. This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and is united to his wife and they become one flesh. Mark.
10 verses 6 through 9.
separate. 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 9 and 10, do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminate nor homosexuals nor thieves nor covetous nor drunkards
nor revelers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you, but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the spirit of our God." 1 Timothy 1, 8 through 11. But we know that the law is good.
if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers.
Kevin Wilson (40:09.622)
and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which I have been entrusted. 1 Corinthians 7 and 2
But because of the temptation of sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife. And each woman should have her own husband.
Kevin Wilson (40:52.174)
This is what the Bible has to say about two of the most hot button issues that affect how people vote in this 2024 election. I pray that you
Kevin Wilson (41:14.985)
here.
what God is saying, that the noise and the chaos and the opinions of people do not rise above what God has spoken. God bless you.
